Is it true that people who are able to believe in absurdities are capable of committing atrocities?

anybody is capable of committing atrocities. Are ppl who believe in absurdities more likely to commit atrocities? i don't know, probably not. i think it has more to do with the social situation of that person (ex. a poor person with no hope in life is more likely to commit atrocities, regardless of his/her beliefs)
